Taking your New Years resolutions one month at a time can greatly enhance your chances of succeeding. I am terrible a sticking to my resolutions. The first month goes great and then after that I tend to fall off of the wagon. Taking each goal one month at a time has greatly enhanced my chances to succeeding with each new resolution. Each month of 2017 I will let you know how I am doing at sticking to each months resolution! Here is my 12 months to a better you challenge!

Drink More Water!
Water is essential to our health. Drinking the right amount of water can help you lose weight! Slender Kitchen has a handy chart to help you figure out how much water a day you should drink. By drinking the right amount of water you will feel full faster which will lead to less calorie intake, which is helpful after the holiday splurge. Water is also a natural detoxifier and can help you flush out toxins! Staying hydrated also improves fatigue and improves your mood.
Get More Sleep!
The average adult needs 7 to 9 hours of sleep according to the Nation Sleep Foundation. I am one of those people who makes time for sleep. Call me crazy, but I go to bed between 9 and 10 and wake up at 6 everyday. Getting a adequate amount of ZZZs can help you boost creativity, perform better in work and life, and lower stress. Sleep is also important to fighting off inflammation and infections. So do some
research on how to sleep better!
Make Breakfast a Priority!
Making a healthy breakfast not only gives you energy to start the day but will also help you lose weight, while boosting your metabolism. I recommend starting the day of with a green smoothie and oatmeal. I love to get an adequate amount of fiber for my first meal to help me stay full. Here are some benefits of eating a healthy breakfast.
Eat More Fruits and Veggies!
Eat the rainbow! Make fruits and veggies your main food intake for the month. I’m not saying you need to give up meat, wheat and dairy. I am a meat lover and am not willing to try and give it up again because I will simply fail. I do however try to get as many fruits and veggies a day. My goal is to eat 3 cups of colorful fruit and veggies, 3 cups of sulfur/mineral rich veggies, and 6 cups of greens. It is a lot but worth the benefits of eating that much!
Oh the joy of May. At least where I live May is a great month to be outside. Go for a walk. Play a game. Work in you flowerbed or garden. Go fishing or kayaking. Summer is almost here and fresh grass is growing. Being outdoors can be very beneficial to your health and if you have kids its a great way to do something together and pull them from the screen!
Meditation is grounding and a great way to calm the storm inside your soul. Taking time to turn away from electronics and others and focus solely on yourself can greatly increase your happiness. Continuing from May go outside and meditate, relax with nature.
I struggle with this. I love to read but never make enough time to do so. In order for me to love a book it has to keep me wanting more. The moment I get bored is the moment that I never pick the book back up. I can sit out on my deck and read a good book during the summer when I am not working but I just have to have one that keeps me interested. If you have any books you love, write them in the comments.
Walk At Least 10,000 Steps Daily!
Get moving. 10,000 steps doesn’t seem like that many but I struggle to hit it even when all I do is walk and move at work. Walking 10,000 steps can help you sleep better by burning up some unused energy. Make yourself feel better by getting off the couch and move a little!
Never Skip a Meal!
Just don’t do it! Unless you have the stomach flu and physically can’t eat, please eat every meal. Honestly you should be eating 5 small meals a day, but I am old fashioned and eat 3 meals a day plus some snacks. Skipping meals can wreck havoc on your metabolism. I get it, you binge eat or eat unhealthy the day bef
ore and decide that you shouldn’t eat the next day. If you get that inkling stick to fruits and veggies the next day, with a lot of water!
30 for 30!
Work out 30 minute everyday for 30 days! Find a workout you love and do it for at least 30 minutes a day. My plan is to do yoga everyday for 30 days in October. Before having a major setback I was doing yoga 5 days a week for 30 minutes and felt amazing and now it is obvious how important working out is. Plus it takes 21 days for something to become a habit so after 30 days it will be easier to continue after the 30. Find someone to take the challenge with you and get ready to rock the 30 days of fitness!
Donate and Volunteer!
December can be crazy busy and we forget to donate and volunteer. So start in November. Give back to organizations that mean something to you! I like to donate to the National MS Society, since it is an organization that means a lot to me. Volunteer at a soup kitchen or help at a food packing event. Do something that feeds your soul this month!
Make time for Family and Yourself!
This month is a twofer. December is the month for family, but it can also be one of the most stressful months of the year. We stress about keeping everyone happy, money, buying gifts, cooking, and the upcoming year. In order to enjoy the holidays better you need to take some me time. Yes, it is selfish. Yes, some people will judge you for it. But who cares. Find something you enjoy doing and take some “Me Time!”
Do you think we can rock this year together? After everyone saying how terrible 2016 was, I say we forget about it and focus on ourselves and the ones around us! It is time to focus on spreading positivity instead of hate!
