Hello, My Name Is…

Hello, my name is Jenn. That is how we introduce ourselves. Right? Welcome the post that will let you into the world of the girl behind the blog. As more people come to this site, I decided it is time to introduce myself to all of you and let you peek into my life and personality.

In the comments below let me know some things about yourself. Where do you live? What is your favorite food? Where is your happy place? And so on and so forth.

Hello, My Name Is…

Hello, My Name Is

As I said up above my name is Jenn. I started this blog in the fall of 2016 because I felt like I needed a creative outlet and it has been a blessing. I choose the name Joyful Iowan because I would not be who I am if I did not grow up in Iowa and I will always choose joy above everything else. Now let’s get into what makes me who I am.

Myers-Briggs tells me I am an ENFP

I have had to take this test for different classes four times and every time I am an ENFP. This is how ENFP’s are described…

ENFPs are people-centered creators with a focus on possibilities and a contagious enthusiasm for new ideas, people and activities. Energetic, warm, and passionate, ENFPs love to help other people explore their creative potential.

The ENFP description is actually a pretty accurate description of myself.

I graduated from Culinary School

I graduated from culinary school in 2012. Culinary school helped me discover my love of creating new recipes and my love of working with chocolate. My goal after culinary school was to open a chocolate shop and make creative new chocolates and classic masterpieces but life changed my direction.

The lake is my happy place

Honestly, just being around or on the water is my happy place. I find peace and calmness whenever I am near water. Whether I am fishing, swimming, kayaking, or paddle boarding I am happy. I can go to the lake and disconnect from the world and never go back.

I do not have a favorite food

Seriously, I love food way too much to ever choose a favorite. Whether it is fish, a burger, jambalaya, pasta, salad, eggs, waffles, cheesecake or even a smoothie. Food is a delightful experience for me and I prefer to live life in moderation so that I can eat amazing food and not over indulge.

I wanted to be a missionary

My main calling in life has always been to serve others who are less fortunate than myself. Until life had other plans for me. I honestly wanted nothing more than to travel and help others who needed it. I thought that I would call the world my home. Now I find new ways to help others.

Matthew 28:19-20

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Kickin The Schmidt Outta MS is my mission

Multiple Sclerosis is a Debbie downer in my life and I would love to help find a cure to end this horrible disease. If you would like to donate or join my WalkMS team to end this disease click here.

I’m a dog person

“My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog thinks I am.” – Anonymous

Let me be totally frank and proudly state that I am a full-on dog person. In most cases, I like dogs more than humans.

Red lipstick makes me happy

Red lipstick is my confident color. I know that I can put it on and conquer the world.

“She has a way with words, red lipstick, and making an entrance.” – Kate Spade

Iowa will always be home

I have lived in other states but nothing will replace this state. So, no matter where I go I know I can always come back to where the corn grows knee high by the 4th of July.

Now you know a little more about the girl behind the blog. Joyful Iowan has been a fun journey so far and I hope you are ready for the ride!

  1. Fun and Nice introduction! My husband is from Iowa but has lived in Kansas longer than he lived in Iowa. He said Kansas is starting to feel like his home..hmmm 😉

Sounds like you’ve got a lot going and are driven to fight MS! Keep it up!!

  2. Nice to meet you Jenn. I’ve done the MS Walk a few times as I have Myasthenia Gravis, a form of MS. For the most part I live a happy, healthy life but there are days when the MG kicks in and I don’t even want to get out of bed. I too hope we can rid the world of this diseases, not just for me but for those that really suffer advanced stages and those just learning they are afflicted.

  3. Hi, I’m Wendy! I live in Massachusetts with my three daughters. It feels like home here because my grandparents and father grew up here. I love hanging out with my friends. Doesn’t really matter what we are doing, we still have fun. I recently started my blog Moments For “Me” on self care because with all the stress in my life currently I need a job with tons of flexibility for me to practice my own self care, take care of my girls needs, and still have fun!

  4. It’s really nice to meet you! I hope you do kick MS’s butt, because you are rocking it! I’m Krysten, I’m a chef, my favorite food is pasta (any kind). I live in San Francisco. And I am a happy mommy and blogger!

  5. Great to get to know you Jen! I am definitely a dog person and my personality type is ENFJ! Crazy how that test accurately depicts us as a person!! The red lips look great on you 😉

  6. It’s nice to “meet” you! You did great at introducing yourself and telling your story in a nutshell. I can relate to much of it! I actually didn’t feel the need to really go out of my way for many people earlier on in life, that is, until my health crashed and I got severely ill. I’ve spent the last few years restoring my health and it has been real work!

My whole mission now is to spread healing, health and hope and that is also why I started my blog! Continue to be an inspiration! The world needs positive, Jesus loving people in it and you will be a blessing to many I’m sure!

Thank you! I think I will always be an Iowa girl at heart. It’s where my favorite memories are but I still enjoy moving to other places.

Nice to meet you too! I hope we can rid the world of disease too! I know the feeling of not wanting to get out of bed but remember to keep fighting for the life you want! It is hard when we have chronic diseases to fight some days but I have learned those are the days we need to fight the most!

Nice to meet you, Wendy. Thank you for checking out my blog. Both of my parents and grandparents are from Iowa so this state holds a special place in my heart. I like your blog. Self-care is incredibly important but it’s one of the easiest thing to put on the back burner.

  11. Hi! Loved learning about you, Jenn. 🙂 My name is Alyssa. I live in New Jersey, right outside of NYC. I have two kids and I work from home as a freelance beauty writer and editor (Refinery 29, Dr. Oz, Town & Country, and more) and as a blogger! I have a lifestyle/parenting/beauty blog called The Sparkly Life and I’d be honored if people would check it out! 🙂

  12. Hi Jenn, you have a lovely blog! I love the “joyful” part! I take positivity, joy, and good smile over anything. My background is a bit complicated. I was born and raised closer to Siberia and then moved all the way to NYC where I’ve been living with my SO and little daughter for quite a while now. I blog about fashion, beauty, and all the girly things 🙂

  13. Gabrielle

I am an ENFJ so our personality types are quite close 😉 I am right there with you…I like dogs better than most people haha!!! Especially my dog Will 🙂

  14. I love this SO much. Us bloggers should do this more than just the ‘about me’ page. This is so warm and personal and I love details. Beautiful!

  15. Love this and it so nice to know more about the girl behind the blog. 😉 I want to go to culinary school one day just because I love food and love to cook.

  16. Love this post! It’s a great way to get to know you! Sometimes when we have been blogging for awhile we forget to re-introduce ourselves to our readers. This is perfect!

  17. Illinois here, we live by the mississippi river and work and shop in Burlington, Iowa. Spent loads of time in Iowa City last year fighting cancer with my husband. Red is my favorite color and being outdoors or in the kitchen is what I love.

  18. It is a pleasure to meet you Jenn! I have loved blogging because since I started it, I have been meeting people all over the world. It is nice to know you and your dreams. Just like you, I love to travel too. I hope that you will be able to achieve all your dreams in your life. Be positive always. 🙂

  19. Love this! I need to do an introduction on my blog as well.
Just as encouragement, you ARE a missionary. As we live life on mission for Christ, we are engaging with people in order to bring them into a life-changing relationship with Him. You don’t have to go around the world for this. Your mission field is where God has you right now. 🙂

Great post! I don’t think enough bloggers stop to let us into their world, and learn about them, enough– I’m guilty of it too in fact! Maybe I will use this as motivation to at least make an “about me” page on my blog!
